To Autumn

To Autumn is written using the poem by John Keats of the same name. This work has two distinct sections, each of which characterizes the autumnal lyrics in their own way. The A-section is bright and cheery, showing off the beauty and loveliness of the Autumn season. The B-section is darker, with a focus on the longing and yearning that may come for other seasons, or for the title season after it has gone.

This piece will challenge your choir in ways that are uncommon in choral writing. The tonal center of the piece is constantly shifting in ways you may not expect, switching key centers using mostly pivot notes or chords to sometimes not-adjacent neighbors. However, once your singers get to know the piece and its beauty, they will surely love singing this work.
